These are the moments I live for...

Today I had one of those moments that, as a writer, I live for...

You know, those brief yet vivid glimpses into the future, the discovery of new characters, of new directions for your story to go in; those moments when the writing comes easily, where you feel more like you're channeling the words than making any conscious effort to think them, where it's all flow and you wonder why it can't always be like this, and wish that you didn't have to stop soon and pick your kid up from school; those moments when your characters become real, and you are simply recording the overheard conversations between them, when you feel more like a fly on the wall, observing, than a writer, creating...

...you know the ones.

  1. Possibly the result of a lot of hard work? I find that the more I do (generally of anything) the easier it becomes and the more initiative flows into what I am doing. I suppose the old adage "practice makes perfect" is true.

I'm glad to see it is working for you.

  2. Thanks TT,
Though I'm still far from perfect, 32,500 words isn't half bad...

  3. And though your heart is racing from excitement, you never feel more at peace. Yup...know the feeling :-)

  4. At TAFE yesterday the lecturer spoke about 'Flow'- when your ability and several other things combine and you move into a different zone and time passes as you work, without you noticing anything outside of what you are doing. She wasn't talking about writing, but I knew so well the feeling she was talking about. Artists get it, sometimes sportspeople, distance runners, writers get it too, and it's one of the reasons why I love writing so much. It's magical when you're in that place.
Good luck with your word count!
